Those that know me are reminded on a sometimes daily basis about my love for Grey’s Anatomy. Jesse Williams, who plays Jackson Avery on the show, is one of my favorite things about Greys. After I moving past how gorgeous he is, I began to take note of everything else he has to offer.
Here are my top five reasons I love Jesse Williams aka McPerfect:
1. He has a beautiful wife with natural hair and he adores her.
After my initial disappointed that Jesse Williams is happily married, I couldn’t help but to admire the obvious love Jesse Williams has for his wife, Aryn Drake-Lee. They have been together for a long time, and just welcomed their daughter into the world last December. Aryn was with Jesse well before he became the Jackson Avery we know and love. Did I mention how I love that Aryn wears her hair naturally curly? You go Aryn!
2. He is socially conscious.
In the past year, Jesse William’s has proved that he is more than just a handsome (very handsome) face. He is aware of his privileges and uses his platform as an actor to comment on racial disparities. He isn’t afraid that having a voice will sabotage his career. In fact, I think his voice has made him more sought out. There are very few entertainers that openly and willingly broadcast their social consciousness and I appreciate Jesse for doing so. With a degree in African American studies from Temple University, I’m sure his awareness is by accident. Check out this longform he posted on Tumblr about Django Unchained. Definitely worth reading! Last weekend I had the pleasure of participating in Michigan Fashion Week 2014. I say participating instead of attending because the week was filled with events that encouraged networking, learning, and showcasing personal style mixed with the latest trends. By no means am I a fashion blogger but, I will say I was beyond pleased with the fashion displayed at the events. So, here are my Top 5 moments from Michigan Fashion Week 2014!
1. The fashion showcase was diverse.
At Saturday’s show the designers displayed many different styles. There was street-wear, earrings, men’s fashion, everyday style, and many others showcased throughout the show. A few of my favorites included: Jesse Jane‘s black and white pieces, Fancee‘s all black, the entire Detroit Respect line (including the schmoney dance), Monica Williams‘ earrings, Lena Harbali’s ‘African inspired print, and Jireh de Jose‘s entire line.

The frigid, cold weather has FINALLY been broken for good in Michigan. I know we have had a few good days, but honestly that doesn’t count at all because we can have perfect weather one day, and negative 5 degrees the next day. But, we have had like 5 consecutive 70+ degree days, so I think it’s safe to say, summer is here!
Usually I’m whatever about summer, but for some reason, this year I’m excited.
Here are my top 5 summer favorites:
Sundresses are amazing because they come in different forms, and work for pretty much everyone. Jeans are uncomfortable and hot. I don’t mind the coolness that a breeze provides in a dress. Plus, they look cute with sandals.
2. Rolling Down my Windows and Blasting Music
In college, I never got the chance to do this until I came home for the summer. Partly, because my car didn’t have air conditioning. The other part, is because I was back in Detroit and that’s how you are supposed to ride down 7 mile (did I just out myself?). I try to only do this on the freeway, but this summer I’m planning a few road trips. The wind will be blowing through my curls and my music will be blasting, I can’t wait. After last Thursday’s episode, I decided to stop watching Scandal. It wasn’t the adultery, murder, violence, or corruption that turned me away, it’s the fact that they pimped out Olivia. I can deal with the other stuff because watching a show titled Scandal, we are bound to see crazy things. That whole “we all have to do things we don’t want to” situation drew the line.
The reason I started watching Scandal is the same reason I’ve seen more Tyler Perry movies than I care to admit; it’s for the love. It’s so rare that we see a black, female character on tv that’s a series front-runner. When we do get one, especially a well dressed one, it’s no surprise that we tune in every night. But, long gone are the days of the Khadijahs and Ginas, we get Mary Jane.
Hope is not gone. There are still relatable, black, female characters on tv every week. Check out My Top 5:
